As I strolled through the aisles of Kmart, I was a little surprised to see Nicki Minaj had a fashion line.  I was even more surprised at the customers buying it.  Ideally, it seems like it would be teenage girls searching for some gem of individuality.  In the age of the selfie, what can a person do to make the world see them in a never-ending effort to be special and get more “likes.”  But side stepping the tweens, I saw grown women searching through her pieces.  Moms, possibly grandmas, sifting through fabric and standing in front of the mirror laying a dress on their body as they pined on whether a trip to the dressing room was needed.

Whether it is the crazy costumes or the big bootie, when I think of Nicki Minaj, I think of fun.  Okay, I also think of her beef with Mariah Carey, but your are not going to like everyone you work with anyway!  She has made herself into a brand and she seems to have the road all to herself when it comes to female rappers with commercial success.  In many ways, Nicki Minaj reminds me of Madonna, she is like that “C” student that always finds a way to come out on top.

Is there an age limit on who can or should wear her clothing?  Maybe, but I think a little bit of Nicki Minaj fashions goes a long way.  It is bright and graphic, so one piece at a time would probably be more than enough for most folks.  Sometimes you just need an alter ego for a couple of hours, so why not enjoy your inner Nicki!
